Boomerang Carnet Values Reach Stratosphere, Exceed One Billion

Monday, October 5, 2015

September was a record-breaking month for carnet values, exceeding the June 2011 record and setting a new 5-year high. Boomerang carnets® issued carnets for goods valued over $1.056B in September 2015 exceeding the June 2011 record of $1.03B by $23.5M. By comparison, the average monthly value for the years 2012, 2013 and 2014 was $265M.

Of note is that no single carnet caused the growth in General List values in September. Historically huge values were the result of high-valued items such as a single aircraft being shipped to an international air show. September carnets included commodities ranging from art work and jewelry to unmanned aircraft and event technology and those large values were spread over dozens of carnets throughout the month.

While the record-breaking September carnet value is unusual, boomerang carnet® growth rates have exceeded expectations by 100% through September in spite of U.S. exports being challenged by the strength of the dollar worldwide.
