Carnet Processing Fees to Increase February 1, 2022

Tuesday, January 18, 2022

The United States Council for International Business, the U.S. national guaranteeing association, has advised its service providers that carnet processing fees will increase as of February 1, 2022.  This is a nationwide increase that will affect all service providers and third-parties that supply carnets.  The fees that are affected are:

  • Basic Processing
  • Certificates & Reorders
  • General List Continuation Sheets

The increase to the Basic Processing Fees ranges from 7.1% - 14.7% depending on the value of the goods on the General List.  The interactive carnet budget worksheet will be updated to reflect the new fees as of February 1st.

Ancillary charges, such as Expedited Service Fees, Replacement Fees, Electronic Importation of General List, etc., will also increase as of February 1st.  This first-time increase to ancillary charges is attributed to the general increase in the cost of doing business.  The savings by using a carnet versus paying the duties and taxes remain substantial despite the rate increases.
