Vietnam is officially the 88th country/territory to join the ATA Carnet system as of May 1, 2022.  The long-awaited status is welcomed by many who see Vietnam as the ideal place to expand their businesses.  Vietnam was the United States' 28th largest goods export market in 2020.  Goods exports to Vietnam in 2020 totaled $9.9 billion and the top export categories were: electrical machinery, plastics, and other machinery.  U.S. exports of services to Vietnam were an estimated $2.2 billion in 2020, with the travel, transportation, and technical sectors leading the list.

The ATA Carnet is an internationally accepted customs document for temporarily exported merchandise, goods, or professional equipment and allows cross border movement of goods import-duty and -tax free into any of the 87+ carnet countries and territories for up to a year.  The ATA Carnets’ benefits include significant savings on import-duty and -tax with built-in ease Clearing Customs.  Acceptable goods on a carnet into Vietnam includes goods for display at trade fairs and exhibitions.
