Customs Streamlines ATA Carnet Validation

A CBP Muster Topic issued in October 2011 (Office of Field Operations) improves a tricky process that U.S. ATA Carnet users and customs officers have wrestled with for years. It is now permitted to have a carnet validated at any port of exit as long as the goods will be out of the user's control after departing from that port.

Mexican Carnet Authorities Issue Warning

Mexican carnet authority, CANACO, has issued an official warning that carnet users trying to enter Mexico with a carnet that has not been registered in advance will be denied entry. As previously reported by CIB, carnets entering Mexico need to be registered, at least several days, in advance of arriving in Mexico.

Carnets Now Accepted in Cabo San Lucas Mexico

Effective immediately, an additional customs district has been added to the Mexican ports accepting ATA Carnets. That district includes the airports at Cabo San Lucas and Santa Rosalia.

U.A.E. Update - Abu Dhabi

October 6, 2011

Abu Dhabi will begin accepting ATA Carnets for the temporary admission of goods effective October 1st, 2011. Goods traveling on ATA Carnets for trade shows and fairs or similar events will be able to enter this emirate through the Abu Dhabi International Airport and the seaport of Zayed, according to the United States Council for International Business (USCIB), which administers and guarantees Carnets in the United States.

Duck flambé? Artist Bart Dorsa shipped a spectacular flaming kinetic duck sculpture to Russia recently and he used an ATA Carnet by Boomerang FreightSM Solutions to clear Russian customs. The duck had made its debut at Burning Man and then Dorsa decided to take it to Moscow to make a quacky political statement there.
