Can I Get a Carnet from CIB if My Shipment Is Not Originating in, or Traveling Through the US?

Merchandise and equipment not originating in the US may be eligible for a carnet however that carnet cannot be obtained in the US. The international ATA carnet must come from the country where the merchandise or equipment originates. Each carnet country has a National Guaranteeing Association (NGA) which is responsible for issuing carnets in that country. Contact us for information regarding the NGA in your country.

Merchandise and equipment that is transitting the US from a non-carnet country (all the Latin American countries are examples) may be eligible for a US carnet. Such shipments may transit into the US under a Termporary Importation Bond and then travel to any of the other carnet countries using a US carnet. Contact us for details on how to obtain both the temporary import bond and the US carnet.
